NOTICE OF SERIES (NoS)

The notation ‘[NP]’ in a rule means that a boat may not protest another boat for breaking that rule. This changes RRS 60.1 (a).

  1. RULES
    • The event is governed by the rules defined in the 2025-2028 Racing Rules of Sailing.

  1. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
    • Sailing Instructions will be available May 15, 2025, and online at dillonyachtclub.com and in limited quantities in the DYC clubhouse.

  1. COMMUNICATION
    • [NP] All boats shall carry a VHF radio capable of communicating on channel 69.
    • On the water, the race committee will make courtesy broadcasts to competitors on VHF radio. The channel will be stated in the Sis.

  1. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
    • Regattas are open to all Full, Emeritus, Life, Young Adult, Junior, and Honorary members of the Dillon Yacht (“DYC Members”).
    • DYC Members intending to compete in the Summer Regatta Series or an Individual Regatta must fill out a registration form, pay applicable race fees, and sign a liability waiver for all participants before competing in their first race. No participant shall be scored in a regatta or the series until all three requirements have been met.
    • For all boats competing in the Summer Regatta Series or Individual Regatta, the helmsperson must be a DYC Member as described in 4.1. A social member may skipper in one Individual Regatta.
    • Five or more one-design boats registered and paid for the entire Summer Regatta Series will constitute a Fleet for scoring purposes.
      • Projected One Design fleets: Etchells, Melges 24, and J24.
    • To qualify for a one-design fleet, five boats must be registered by the second Regatta. Any registered boat must compete in at least one race of the series to be included in the fleet.
    • PHRF boats shall have valid 2025 SAIL PHRF Certificates. Up to three PHRF fleets may be created:
      • PHRF A Sport Boats shall include any boats with asymmetrical spinnakers.
      • PHRF B shall include all boats with symmetrical spinnakers.
      • PHRF C shall be the non-spinnaker fleet
    • Depending on the number of registrations, some one-design fleets may race with, and be scored with a PHRF fleet in addition to their one-design fleet. In this case, participants will be scored in both their one-design fleet and a PHRF fleet. For example, if J22s do not have enough boats for a one design fleet and J24s qualify as a one-design fleet, the J22s & J24s will race together as PHRF-B, and J24s will be scored for both one-design fleet and PHRF-B.
    • Race Committee Support: Each skipper registered in the Summer Regatta Series shall be responsible for race committee support staff (non-PRO) for one race day which can include a Frostbite Series day. Responsibility is for three volunteers. Exception requests can be made to the Race Director.

  • RISK STATEMENT
    • RRS 3 states: ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.’ By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury. Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent, catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia or other causes.

  • INSURANCE
    • It is the owner’s responsibility to carry liability and casualty insurance to cover all potential and actual claims and losses and to provide proof on request of the DYC.

  • PRIZES
    • Regatta awards for each fleet (4.4 and 4.6) will be awarded each weekend.
    • DYC overall Summer Regatta Series prizes for the top 3 finishing boats in each fleet (4.4 and 4.6) will be awarded at the DYC Awards Banquet. To be eligible, a boat must be registered for the Summer Regatta Series.
    • DYC overall Frostbite Series prizes for the top 3 finishing boats will be awarded at the DYC Awards Banquet. To be eligible, a boat must be registered for the Summer Regatta Series or the Frostbite Series.
