DILLON YACHT CLUB'S JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM OPENS NEW JUNIOR FACILITY
Dillon, CO - The Dillon Yacht Club on Dillon Reservoir, will celebrate the first full year of the Junior Sailing building. Located at the Dillon Marina, this building is a 16x30 log cabin design and will offer storage capabilities for all sailing equipment, boat parts, sails, life jackets and students' personal gear. This program continues to advance in teaching the next generation of sailors at a whole new level.
The Junior Sailing program was developed to provide a recreational and educational program for Summit County's youth to develop fundamental sailing skills, teamwork, strategy and safety through one week courses held during the summer months. The Dillon Yacht Club established the DYC Junior Sailing Program in 2002 in order to foster a strong local sailboat racing program while providing a worthwhile program for area youth development.
The
DYC Junior program is a Colorado registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit and can
only survive by the generous contributions from individuals and the business
communities that are based from the town of Dillon, to surrounding counties
and all the way to the front range of Denver. One can always get involved
and have the piece of mind that your contribution will be put to its fullest
extent to educate or next generation of sailors. The Dillon Yacht Club & Junior Sailing Club is located at the Dillon Marina on the East shore of Lake Dillon. Established in 1968, the club has over 200 members. DYC has an active history of competitive sailing and has produced a number of world-class sailors. The club has an excellent reputation for managing the largest sailing regatta in the Rocky Mountain West in often varying conditions. The Club is just a short drive from other Summit County Colorado attractions and destinations like Breckenridge, Frisco, Keystone, Silverthorne and a quick 70-mile drive from downtown Denver and its many attractions.
"Once you see the determination in a young sailor's eyes, you develop a sense of compassion knowing that oneself has been there before" affirms Frank Keesling. Plan on attending this special event, w e are reaching out to the community and seeking pledges to offset the construction expenses. With the current funds, we have to make sure we maintain highly skilled instructors for teaching and proper upgrades to the sailing equipment in which they have been earmarked for. |
