Beginning Sailing Camp
(Ages 10-13)

Description:

This learn-to-sail program is designed to teach our younger students who wants to learn a new sport and have some fun doing it. This group will sail both double handed and single handed boats. All students may sail together the first day and then be divided into ability groups. Students will receive instruction geared toward their assigned group. If you're not sure what camp would be best for your child, this is the one just to start the process.

These are weekly camps Monday – Friday, June 16-August 15 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm rain or shine. Minimum 4, Maximum 10 per week.

Boats sailed: Picos
This the perfect choice for our youngest or first time sailors. Students sail in Picos with an instructor nearby at all times. The instructor to student ratio places an emphasis on safety and learning! This course is designed to be a pleasant and unintimidating introduction to sailing and water safety.

"Pikes"

Introduction Sailing Camp

(Ages 14-18)

Description:

This learn-to-sail program is designed to teach our older students who wants to learn a new sport and have some fun doing it. This group will sail both double handed and single handed boats. All students may sail together the first day and then be divided into ability groups. Students will receive instruction geared toward their assigned group. If you're not sure what camp would be best for your child, this is the one just to start the process.

Students should weight at least 100-120lbs.

 

These are weekly camps Monday – Friday, June 16-August 15 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm rain or shine. Minimum 4, Maximum 10 per week.

Boats sailed: Hunter 140

This the perfect choice for our beginning sailors that a a biut older and weight more. Students sail in these safe nad stable boats with an instructor nearby at all times. The instructor to student ratio places an emphasis on safety and learning!

"Cutthroats"

Intermediate sailing camp

(Ages 10-18)

Description:

If you have already done the beginning or introduction to sailing camp, this might be the place for you. All students will sail together the first day and then be divided into ability groups. These two groups (Hunter 140 or 420 Camp) will sail in one of the two boats listed. This camp works with drills and games to improve a sailor's skills. Using both single and double handed boats, we put an emphasis on team work and communication.

 

These are weekly camps Monday – Friday, June 16-August 15 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm rain or shine. Minimum 4, Maximum 10 per week.

 

Hunter Camp: This boat is designed for two intermediate students and will teach teach teamwork. This is a course for sailors who are ready to sail with crew members. Sailors who enroll in this class should be able to tack, gybe, and sail with others.

420 Camp (Ages 14-18) The Club 420 is a high performance collegiate racing boat, and the boat sailed by more schools then any other. This boat is fast, technically challenging and fun! Sailors who enroll in this class should be able to tack, gybe, and sail independently. This boat is double handed, so the class focuses on teamwork. Designed for our more advanced intermediate sailors.

"Timberliners"

Introduction to Racing

(Ages 12-18)

Description:

This program, sailors will begin to learn the basic racing rules, basic tactics, how to recognize and use weather and wind conditions, and how to make the boats sail faster. This class is for anyone between 12 and 18 years old.

These are weekly camps Monday – Friday, June 16-August 15 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm rain or shine. Minimum 4, Maximum 10 per week.

Beginning Timberliner

Sailing in Hunter 140's, this program sailors will begin to learn the basic racing rules, basic tactics, how to recognize and use weather and wind conditions, and how to make the boats faster.

Prerequisites - to participate in Beginning Racing, students must have participated in a beginning and intermediate class and be able to apply the

1. Identify starboard, port, windward and leeward.

2. Sail on all points of sail and in breeze up to 15 knots.

3. Tack and Gybe correctly, passing the tiller extension behind their backs

Intermediate Timberliner (Ages 12-18)

Sailing in Club 420's and Lasers, this program sailors learn tactics, work on roll tacks and gybes, fly a spinnaker and start to work on advanced issues like sail shape, more advanced rules, and increasing boat speed. Prerequisites - to participate in Intermediate Racing, students must be able to:

1. Start a race.

2. Do the basics of a roll tack.

3. Understand the basic racing rules of sailing.

Top of the Rocks

Advanced Race and Regatta Camps

(Ages 14-18)

Description:

This course is our advanced race camp, and works on refining skills learned from the beginning and intermediate race camps. At the end of the course all students will participate in a DYC regatta as a team on the weekend. Students may be assigned to one of the sailing programs boats or may use their own boat.

Prerequisites – Must have participated in one of the offered racing camps or have shown advanced skills that have passed the instructors inspection.

Students must be able to:

1. Know the flag system and how to start a race.

2. Do the basics of a roll tack.

3. Understand the basic racing rules of sailing.

4. Know your race course signs and signals.

5. Also should be available for the weekend regattas at the end of the course.

Wednesday-Sunday, Teaching June 25-27 (includes the Timberline Regatta, June 28-29)

Wednesday-Sunday, Teaching July 23-25 (includes the Ptarmigan Regatta June 26-27)

Wednesday-Sunday, Teaching August 13-15 (includes the Peak 7 Regatta August 16-17)  

This camp will also help prepare students to compete in the Dillon Open Centerboard Division
